Cytoplasmic inheritance and its effects on development and performance

In contrast to nuclear inheritance, cytoplasmic inheritance in mammals is derived mostly, if not exclusively, from the maternal line. Mitochondria, and their DNA molecules (mtDNA), are the genetic units of this method of inheritance.
